Founded in 1998 by Gorka Yarritu, Surf Eskola Sopelana has been a trailblazer in bringing the joy of surfing to everyone. As the first surf school to offer courses on the local beaches, it has earned the distinction of being the sole recipient of the Quality Label bestowed by the EHSF. Situated at the foot of Larrabasterra Beach, also known as Arrietarra or Sopelana Beach, in Bizkaia, the school boasts the EU's Blue Flag for quality and all necessary services and access.

Gorka Yarritu, a seasoned professional surfer with over 30 years of experience, founded and manages the school. With over 15 years as a surfing instructor and the Team Manager of Quiksilver, he plays a key role in scouting and guiding future talents. The atmosphere at the school is friendly, relaxed, yet professional.

Expert surf instructors, who are also accomplished athletes, go the extra mile to share their passion for the sport they love. By imparting surf lessons, they give back to the sport that has enriched their lives through years of global surfing experiences.

The school's commitment to surfing is evident in the positive environment, friendliness, and professionalism that define their surf courses. Nestled in Sopelana, a coastal municipality in Vizcaya, Surf Eskola Sopelana operates on Arrietarra Beach, offering a dynamic learning experience. The beach, shared with Atxabiribil beach, is known for its variability, ranging from calm to potentially hazardous conditions depending on the sea's mood. Surf Eskola Sopelana stands out as the first surf school in the area, holding the prestigious "Label EHSF" quality certificate granted by the Basque Surf Federation. They cater to all age groups, providing initiation, improvement, and competition surf classes. Their offerings include individual classes, private sessions, 5 or 10-day courses, and flexible schedules, staying true to their three guiding principles: sport, nature, and fun.
