In surfing the board becomes an extension of us, it is what sustains us, it allows us to maintain balance and allows us to challenge the waves, but it also becomes the target to all the hits.

It’s simple that by the force of the waves, the sand or the rocks of the beach our board could suffer damages. The important thing when the surfboard is damaged is to fix it as soon as possible to avoid water seeping through the crack and that the damage may be more considerable./p>

Today we are going to show you how to repair your surfboard in 5 simple steps so that it always looks as good as new. There are also workshops or courses to learn how to fix your surfboard or even make one for yourself.

  1. Clean and dry

First of all, before starting to work with your table you should dry it thoroughly, either in the sun or with the help of a dryer, you choose.
Once it is completely dry you will have to prepare the work area, that is, remove the dirt, pieces of material raised or in poor condition.
This first step is essential if you want to achieve optimal results because it will depend on it that when applying the resin the part is homogeneous or not.

  1. Make the mixture

When you have the damaged area prepared, forget about the table and get to work with the mixture you need for repair. The mixture is composed of polyester resin accompanied by the catalyst; the latter serves to get the area to dry and harden correctly. As the last step, you must add microspheres of glass to the mixture.

In stores, you can also find resin preparations, without having to make your mix, but less economically.

  1. Protect the area to be treated

You already have the surfboard and the mix ready, now you only need to protect the area that you are going to treat to obtain the optimal results and that the resin doesn’t stain other parts that are in good condition.

You only have to take the adhesive tape and place it limiting the area to be treated; then you have everything ready to apply the resin.

  1. Apply the mixture

With the help of a spatula or other flat implement, apply the resin mixture directly to the damaged area. Try to do it evenly throughout the area marked with the adhesive tape.
The more uniform it is, the easier it will be after you equalize everything and you will need less time sanding it.

  1. Dry and sand

Before sanding, you should let the applied product dry. The drying time will depend on the catalyst you use; this should always be specified in the container itself, the average is usually about 10-15 minutes.

Is it dry already? Now take your sandpaper of medium grade and begin to sand the area calmly and gently to achieve the uniformity that we seek without exceeding us.

In case you haven’t understood about the procedure I leave an explanatory video, I hope it helps.
